Easy, Private Path to the Beach

We knew this was the right property for us when Great-Grandma could walk to the beach with us.

Property Details

A Home On The Harbor is located in the sunny banana belt of the Pacific Northwest. This weather phenomenon means that Freeland gets less rainfall than the mainland (Seattle area) and makes your island stay even more of a treasured getaway.

Just steps to the pebble strewn tidal beach.

Our home features a very easy path, that is shared with only one other home, to a privately-owned beach. This pebble strewn beach is tidal and when the tide is out, it opens up a wide, deep sandy area that is super for sand castles and watching tiny crabs. The beach is often calm and is an easy place to launch your kayaks or paddle boards. You can also use the public boat launch at nearby Freeland Park to launch and anchor your larger boats. Holmes Harbor has excellent boating, crabbing and fishing. Licenses and supplies can be obtained at Ace Hardware—only a 3 minute drive from the house.

Thoughtfully designed with simplicity in mind.

A Home On The Harbor is newly on the market and is available for the first time to vacation renters. It is freshly painted and furnished with you in mind. We have kept it purposely simple and uncluttered, with some thoughtful comforts. Two bedrooms (one up, one down) feature brand new queen-sized beds with soft, luxury linens and allergy friendly comforters. A third downstairs bedroom features two new bunk beds with brand new 8” mattresses and bedding with organic sheets. The upstairs bathroom has concrete counter tops, a bath/shower and has plenty of soft organic cotton bath towels for your use.

Build a fire and relax.

In the sunny and cozy living room there is comfy seating that is perfect for cuddling near the fire and reading stories to little ones. The charming Vermont Castings wood stove traveled with us from New England to be featured in this living room; where it keeps a nice, toasty hot fire. In keeping with simplicity, the house doesn’t have any TV screens, but you can use your own devices with the available WiFi.

Our guests rave about our fully loaded cook’s kitchen.

The kitchen opens to the dining space and has concrete counter tops and plenty of cupboard and counter space for your meal endeavors. Place settings for twelve are available in stoneware for the house and melamine for outdoors. You can enjoy many small appliances to add to your vacation ease including an electric griddle, blender, Crock Pot, microwave, electric tea kettle, coffee maker and grinder. Sharp knives and high quality stainless cooking pots await you; this kitchen is stocked with everything you could need including assorted pantry spices. Just bring your groceries and go!

Extra space for kids to hang out.

The family room has a couch and a table for games. It makes a nice space to host energetic young ones during a rainy afternoon. It also has a ¾ bath and new, extra-large capacity Maytag washer/dryer.

Grilling and outdoor dining in a peaceful seaside setting.

Outside, the home has a wraparound deck for dining, grilling on the Weber gas grill, or enjoying coffee at sunrise. There is a large, grass yard perfect for lawn games or kid play. It is also a welcoming area for island deer so make sure to have your camera ready. The apple tree will bear delicious fruit in the fall that you can use to make a pie if you like.  A Home On The Harbor is located in a quiet neighborhood that sits on a paved, private lane, mainly populated with second homes.

Come and enjoy your vacation on Whidbey Island. Let us know if you have any questions, we are happy to help.

More Details

Explore, walk, and play in the Holmes Harbor area.

Just a short stroll down the beach and you can enjoy nearby Freeland Park, with a great playground that is popular with all our young guests and a dock that gives you an opportunity to chat with boaters as they launch their boats or to throw a fishing rod over. If you continue on your walk you will go over the hill housing Freeland Hall, a picturesque hall that hosts many weddings, and you’ll find yourself looking down on Nichols Brothers boat manufacturing. It is always exciting to peak into their yard and see what large vessels are in the midst of repair. Make sure and look closely on the nearby trail through the wetlands to see the red-winged blackbirds. On the top of the knoll you’ll see a fine dining favorite—Gordon’s on Blueberry Hill.

Shops, dining, groceries, and coffee– all are car-optional.

Shopping and amenities are a 3 minute drive or a short walk if you like. Payless Grocery store features all the expected brands of a supermarket plus a fish counter, large beer, wine and spirits selection, a natural and organic food aisle with lots of allergy friendly and gluten free brands, organic produce, and organic or pastured meats. The gourmet and the selective eater will all find what they need right there. In the same shopping center, Rite-Aid and Ace Hardware also have any supply you might desire including fishing licenses. More local shops nearby include antique shops, fine gift stores, and thrift stores. Freeland has many delicious dining options including Whidbey Coffee, popular Rocket Taco, China City, Freeland Freeze for local ice cream and, 15 minutes away, is the Town of Langley with even more dining and shopping options.

Everyone loves carefree, sunny summer days on Whidbey.

Summer on Whidbey is amazing and when the seasons are right you can pick apples from the unsprayed trees, rhubarb and herbs from the organic herb bed, and wild blackberries for fresh pie. Local farmers’ markets feature a myriad of fresh berries and veggies. Often local farmers sell fresh eggs in stands on the road. Many events take place on the island in the summer. The 3rd of July is a major event on our harbor with a spectacular fireworks display that you can watch from the home and it includes a festival at Freeland park complete with food trucks and live music. Events such as the musical talent of DjangoFest, Island Shakespeare Festival, Whidbey Island Music Festival, the Whidbey Island Fair, and racing fun of Tour De Whidbey are always favorites as are nearby golfing, distilleries, breweries and wineries.

Blustery beach strolls and steamy coffee shops on Whidbey in the winter.

Winters on Whidbey can be just as special. Take advantage of breaks in blustery weather for beach strolls and even boating and crabbing. Fresh crab for Christmas is a worthwhile adventure (or buy one at Payless Grocery). During winter our calm harbor can even have nice breaks for easy kayaking. When the wind and rain picks up enjoy a steamy coffee shop, local wine tasting or Whidbey Pies in Greenbank. Then come back and start the fire in the Vermont Castings woodstove and settle in with a book or a game with the family. Island life has something for everyone.

Come and enjoy Whidbey Island. Let us know if you have any questions. We are here to help and, as you can see, I could talk about it all day.
