Freeland Park Fun

Families love to stay and play on Whidbey Island and there is nothing nicer than a great playground within an easy walk of your vacation home to let the little ones burn off some steam. In fact, my young niece insists on a trip to this playground everyday that she is visiting. Swings and big slides are always a hit, but playing at a park with a gorgeous water view? Now that is awesome!

Freeland Park is a small, local park located right on Holmes Harbor, featuring a beach, dock, a boat ramp, and covered picnic areas. In the summer months, the park is a great gathering place for locals as the weather warms up and boating season gets underway. The dock is filled with the hustle and bustle of fishermen and pleasure boaters as they use the boat ramp to get onto the water.

Other people enjoy this park the most when it is calm. They can stroll the beach, or sit on a bench and watch the sunset while following the quieter fishing activities of the resident Great blue herons, bald eagles, river otters, porpoises and the occasional orca or gray whale.

If you are interested in clamming at Freeland Park you can follow the seasonal conditions here. Clams, mussels and oysters open October 1- May 31.
